    March 2008
With so many good things happening with the Utah Legion Family, it makes one proud to a member of this great organization.
We recently had our Department Oratorical with the winner representing Utah and District 9 being Allyson Workman. We wish her the best in the competition in Indianapolis. We had many fine contestants from all over the State doing a fine job and representing their districts very well.
Boys' State is fast approaching, and again this year all quotas have been lifted. Please get to the schools and do some recruiting, and don't forget the home schoolers and charter schools.
I would like to congratulate Bill Dunlap on the fine job he is doing with our Department Web Page. Check out the front page with a great picture of American Legion member Jill Stevens, Miss Utah and America's choice for Miss America. She is one class act and did a great job of representing the State of Utah and the American Legion.
We should be in our new office at the State Capitol by weeks end. It's been a long drawn out process but we finally got all the details and obstacles worked out.
Also at the State Capitol on February 29th the Utah Senate passed the bill that allows for the new Veterans Nursing home to be built in Northern Utah. Many thanks go out to all the Veterans that showed up in support of this effort.
We must also recognize the tireless effort put forth over the last several years by our veterans and the veterans council members both past and present for a job well done. With special thanks to Terry Schow for his leadership and dedication.
Jim Fieldler from national membership spent 3 weeks here and with his help and help from several districts we were able to revitalize posts in Tooele, Heber, and Pleasant Grove. A common theme prevailed when we knocked on doors. It went something like " It's about time I was contacted, I pay my dues but never recieved any information on what my post is doing, where have you been"?
Our next department DEC is March 8th, please come out and support these activities and enjoy some fine food and friendship at the Airport Hilton. Check out the agenda on this website.
Our National Commander will be in Utah on March 21 and 22 attending activities in Ogden, more information will follow and be discussed at the DEC.
With spring conventions just around the corner it's hard to believe that another year will be over in a few short months, and it has indeed been an honor to represent our Department.

    My Honor to Serve
