I would like to take this opportunity to wish all a
Happy New Year. Did you know The American Legion
publishes a financial aid handbook for high school
students titled “
Need
A Lift?” The publication features information
on scholarships, loan and grant opportunities and
information about specific colleges and careers. The
publication can be purchased for $3.95, including
shipping, prepaid from American Legion Emblem Sales, PO
Box 1050, Indianapolis, Indiana 46206.
The American Legion has also established the
American Legion Legacy Scholarship for
children of service men and women killed while on
active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces on or after
September 11, 2001. The application is available on
the Legion’s web site
www.legion.org or from The American
Legacy Scholarship, The American Legion, PO Box
1055, Indianapolis, Indiana 46206. Contributions to
the fund may also be sent to the above address.
There are many Detachments that also give out
scholarships. You need to check with your Detachment
or your Detachment officers, to see what the
requirements are and when applications need to be
back to the Detachments. It is important that we
promote to our member's and their families to take
advantage of these scholarship opportunities,
especially in these difficult economic times.
I would also like to remind everyone if they are
able to help with The American Legion High School
Oratorical Scholarship Program. I wrote about this
program
last month. I will keep this article up
so if you are interested you may go to it and review
it. This program of the American Legion, if it has
not all ready started, is starting this month and
will continue through the finals in early April.
